Biography

Paul Walsh is a British photographer and certified drone pilot who works on personal projects and commissions throughout the UK and internationally. His personal work examines the relationship between walking and photography where he creates projects drawn from the physical, psychological and historical experience of walking. Each project begins with a different approach to walking such as - following lines randomly drawn on a map across a city, carrying out a series of nocturnal ambulation’s, circumambulating a building on foot repeatedly, undertaking a long-distance pilgrimage. He has worked on numerous series exploring ideas on the narrative landscape, utilising place to communicate the experience of both an external and internal journey.

Paul is also a founding member of the photography collective MAP6. For the past thirteen years he has been part of organising projects, exhibitions, publications, talks and events with the collective. Most recently MAP6 launched their publication WALES : The Landscape Project at The Photobookcafe, and their photobook Finland: The Happiness Project at The Photographers Gallery in London. Currently they are working with Urbanautica in Treviso Italy, making a project about the Veneto region and its landscape. Paul holds an M.A in Photography from the University of Brighton, and a B.A (Hons) in Fine Art and Documentary Photography from Liverpool John Moores University. His new book 'Walking with Strangers' will be published by Another Place Press in 2024.
